چکیده

The combination of the high-order unstructured spectral difference spatial discretization scheme with sub-grid scale modeling for large-eddy simulation was investigated with particular focus on the consistent implementation of a structural mixed model based on the scale similarity hypothesis. The difficult task of deriving a consistent formulation for the discrete filter within hexahedral elements of arbitrary order led to the development of a new class of three-dimensional constrained discrete filters. Results from computations of turbulent channel flow at Reτ = 180 and 395 and flow past a confined circular cylinder at ReD = 2580 were compared against direct numerical simulation and particle image velocimetry measurements, respectively. The numerical experiments suggest that the results are sensitive to the use of an sub-grid scale closure, even when a high-order numerical scheme is used, especially when the grid resolution is kept relatively low. The use of the similarity mixed formulation proved to be particularly accurate in reproducing sub-grid scale interactions, confirming that its well-known potential can be realized in conjunction with state-of-the-art high-order numerical schemes.

On the Use of High-order Finite Difference Schemes on Overset Grids for Les in Aeroacoustics

This work deals with high-order finite difference schemes on overlapping grids for LES. The main numerical algorithm is based on optimized schemes and filters combined with high-order Lagrangian interpolations. This method is extended to moving grids and applied on complex fluid/acoustic phenomena in a ducted cavity.

High Order Compact Finite Difference Schemes for Solving Bratu-Type Equations

In the present study, high order compact finite difference methods is used to solve one-dimensional Bratu-type equations numerically. The convergence analysis of the methods is discussed and it is shown that the theoretical order of the method is consistent with its numerical rate of convergence. The maximum absolute errors in the solution at grid points are calculated and it is shown that the ...

Conservative properties of finite difference schemes for incompressible flow

1. Motivation and objectives The purpose of this research is to construct accurate finite difference schemes for incompressible unsteady flow simulations such as LES (large-eddy simulation) or DNS (direct numerical simulation). Experience has shown that kinetic energy conservation of the convective terms is required for stable incompressible unsteady flow simulations. Arakawa (1966) showed that...

On the spurious solutions in the high-order finite difference methods for eigenvalue problems

In this paper, the origins of spurious solutions occurring in the high-order finite difference methods are studied. Based on a uniform mesh, spurious modes are found in the high-order one-sided finite difference discretizations of many eigenvalue problems. Spurious modes are classified as spectral pollution and non-spectral pollution. The latter can be partially avoided by mesh refinement, whil...
